The Best Founders let Mum Handle the Accounts - Week #98 Building a Software Business (...again)

The Family Business

If your mum's not running your accounting - are you even running a real business?

This week I spoke with @shanedelaney and his marketing team from Temper Group about their content workflows.

They are the leading Australian supplier of baking goods for baking good baked goods.

(Try saying that 6 times.)

They're a family business and their mum is the Senior Accounting Officer which is the same role my mum had when were building our last business.

Shoutout to the mums keeping the money coming in!

The Rabbit Hole

I've been going down the rabbit hole for a feature I never wanted to build.

The @clipflow team has had a couple questions from users about the possibility of storing raw media footage inside of Clipflow.

The problem with adding bulk file storage in a platform like Clipflow is that you'll have to compete with the established players like Dropbox and Drive.

But even knowing all of this, I've spent the last 2 weeks exploring and building a basic version.

Why?

Because we know we can provide features and tools with storage that they'll never consider or do.

The Elevator Pitch

Could someone else demo your app in an elevator and land the sale?

@Frank recently had the opportunity to sit down an extremely big creator for a new podcast episode.

After the episode, Frank had around 56 seconds to show him @clipflow.

(Shout out to Frank for looking after the lads.)

My biggest concern was that Frank and his team don't use Clipflow (yet) so I had to give him a crash course on what the core features of Clipflow are.

But thankfully, after working with so many users, we really understand the core problems Clipflow solves and the standout features (like media review and team task lists).

So it was simple to give Frank a high level overview of what Clipflow does.

This really highlights the importance of solving one problem and keeping your application simple.
