My stomach always drops when I open Slack and see this message....

While rushing to drop Bodhi at school I opened Slack to see a message from Zac saying:

“Lads, is this just me?” with a picture of a 502 Bad Gateway error.

What this means is the app is down. No one can access it.

Obviously, I was away from my computer so I was frantically trying to debug on my phone.

If you’ve ever done this you know how frustrating it can be.

I uncovered the root cause of the issue. Our external provider had gone down.

A quick check on X and it wasn’t just affecting us - it was affecting everyone.

Sometimes in this game there are things that are outside your control.

It feels like this is happening more and more frequently in the world these days.

The backbone holding the internet together feels more brittle than ever before.

We stayed on top of this by replying to our users as quickly as possible. Communication is key.

This is just a lesson for us and we’re looking at options to prevent it in the future.
